Hi, thanks for listening to my music! I hope you enjoy it. I write, produce, mix and perform my songs using voice, harmonies piano, acoustic guitar, banjo, glockenspiel, synths (microkorg), distorted drum machines and a loop pedal/station (RC-500) to create layers of ethereal vocal soundscapes. I sometimes have some help from other musicians to add their magic to the mix with violin, cello, viola and female vocals. My name’s Ben McGarvey but I go under the artist name Minute Taker. I’ve released 2 albums and I also compose soundtracks for theatre and film.
I love to compose music and lyrics while walking in the countryside and woods, daydreaming and singing to myself. People have told me they like to relax and chill-out when listening to my music and even listen when exercising or doing yoga and meditation. Others have said they like to listen in the background while working, studying, doing homework, painting and doing other creative activities, writing, reading and even sleeping! I often fall asleep to soothing music. It helps me to de-stress, drifting into different peaceful, calming and reflective moods and emotions while I contemplate the day that’s been (it’s all part of the creative process!).
My music has been described as folktronica as I mix acoustic and electronic instruments. It’s also been described as dream pop and indie-folk (even synthpop at times!). I’m inspired by many amazing alternative artists who make beautiful, dark, moody, weird, magical, melancholy music. Some of my favourite bands and artists include Kate Bush, Bjork, Radiohead/Thom Yorke, Agnes Obel, Fever Ray, Joni Mitchell, Suzanne Vega, John Grant, Bat For Lashes, Sufjan Stevens, Stevie Nicks, Fleetwood Mac, Rufus Wainwright, Sigur Ros, David Bowie, Tori Amos, PJ Harvey, Annie Lennox and Goldfrapp. I’m very much influenced by all of these great artists and even though the music can be quite slow and sad/melancholic I always find it really uplifting. I also love TV/movie soundtracks especially wonderfully dark, haunting, quirky ones like Donnie Darko and Stranger Things!
If you like my music you can hear more from my albums and join my mailing list on my website which is:
